This October New York audiences enjoy De Keersmaeker's Brandenburg Concertos and Tanowitz's Goldberg Variations. Contemporary choreographers are excited by Bach, but what about choreographers who work in the Baroque style? Catherine Turocy, co-founder and director of The New York Baroque Dance Company, presentsCosmic Catalyst on Fridays at Noon, that begins with a short summary of Turocy's and cellist, Colin Carr’s investigation into proportional parallelism between Bach's music and dance choreography. Looking at dance and music theory as it affected composition in the time of Bach, dancers from the NYBDC, Caroline Copeland, Roberto Lara and Meggi Sweeney Smith, dressed in modern practice clothes and period costume, perform excerpts from the Bach Cello Suites. Turocy will speak about her process as a choreographer and the dancers will speak about their art as performing interpreters of both Bach's music and the choreography. The period aesthetic concept of "movement of the soul" will be performed and briefly discussed.
